Centralized Data Analysis and Scalability
The OpenBlue Platform is a flexible and scalable platform that gathers data, stores it securely, and standardizes it. Our platform converts that data into an information asset you can leverage to predict business and building outcomes and gain new insights related to buildings and occupants.
Johnson Controls' OpenBlue Platform can integrate data from a wide range of internal and external sources to help you make sense of your entire building: energy usage, security breaches, equipment performance, and space utilization.
We give you the power to make better decisions faster—and that positions you to achieve all kinds of business goals, including the following:
Operational technology data gathered from on-site devices (Internet of Things data) and information technology systems, and external data (including weather, utility billing, spatial information, facility mapping and even social media).
The OpenBlue Platform is a flexible, scalable, cloud-based platform that reaches across silos to gather data from disparate sources, stores it securely and standardizes the data.
It enables you to have a streamlined, more productive day-to-day experience. As a result, applications that use the platform also help building professionals extend the life of their HVAC equipment, proactively manage security risks and efficiently maintain a comfortable environment for building occupants.
Data Ingestion for Powerful and Simple Insights
The OpenBlue Platform allows various building subsystems and devices to communicate with each other so their data can be mined easily. Janus automates much of this once time-consuming process, delivering data up to 80% faster. Johnson Controls' OpenBlue Platform supports two data-ingestion paths: Operational technology data gathered from on-site devices (Internet of Things data) and information technology systems and external data (including weather, utility billing, spatial information, facility mapping and even social media).
Edge-to-cloud Computing
The OpenBlue Platform lives in the cloud, but the important work happens on the edge—near to where information is gathered and used. The system’s gateway component can process and filter data before sending it to the cloud. If connectivity is down, the gateway buffers the data until the connection returns. What’s more, the OpenBlue Platform respects your organization’s firewalls and only makes outgoing connections to known hosts; it does not require any new ports to be opened and does not allow for incoming connections.
Virtualized Data Management for Better Business Decisions
The OpenBlue Platform puts data into context so you can make informed building and business decisions. It does this by supporting unified meta-data management that allows consistent descriptions of building components and the relationships between them. Our platform includes several sub-platforms: multimodal data storage abstraction service, unified meta-data management, smart entity management, knowledge graph service for the smart environment, and streaming data management service.
Cybersecurity Taken Seriously
The OpenBlue Platform takes the security and privacy of your data seriously. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-leading protocols. The platform itself is protected by a rich access control system, and data can be masked to restrict access to sensitive information. Plus, all Johnson Controls devices are individually and securely provisioned, and take advantage of tamper-proof TPM hardware modules when available.
Device Assurance Means Your Devices are Protected
We specialize in the science of protection whether that means cybersecurity or environment security. Our Device Assurance service gives you peace of mind knowing that all your devices are secure, healthy, and up-to-date with the latest software and any required regular maintenance. Device Assurance makes it easy to generate audit documentation for any compliance requirements.
Intelligent Messaging for Connected Devices
The OpenBlue Platform makes it easy to implement building optimization tools and strategies. Through its intelligent messaging functionality, it creates an environment that allows each connected device to become “self-aware,” communicate with other devices by sharing data, and take action or make adjustments based on what it learns.

Machine Learning is an application of Artificial Intelligence that allows systems to automatically learn and improve from exposure to more data without being explicitly programmed.
Digital twins can be used to represent the past and present state of physical objects, to predict the future state of physical objects, and to simulate or test future processes and changes to answer “what-if” questions.
When implemented with data schemas, buildings can be better optimized and managed with consistent views into systems and data source changes.
Evoteq, in partnership with Johnson Controls, will be introducing in the UAE the first integrated Artificial Intelligence Platform PaaS-based, which will digitally transform offices into next-generation workplaces.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical objects that contains embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with their internal states or the external environment. Johnson Controls has been doing similar work for 20 to 30 years.
More and more, customers want to digitally transform their buildings so they can optimize their spaces, reduce energy, engage occupants and increase security. As a leader in the transformation of buildings, Johnson Controls is constantly innovating—guiding customers to a smarter future.
